I had the perfect life; an awesome job in advertising, a gorgeous high rise apartment, and a flirtation with the guy down the hall. Then it all came crashing down. Two months later I was a cocktail waitress living in a tiny one bedroom apartment. I had also developed a serious ‘men suck’ attitude.
That all changed the night I met the beautiful and enigmatic Conner Savage. But there was just one little problem…he said he was a vampire. Figures a man that hot would be batshit crazy. Or so I thought. It didn't take me long to realize that Conner wasn't a nut job and that I was addicted to him. With every moment we spent together he drew me deeper into his world and the supernatural culture in which he lived.
Now I had a choice the vampire I craved or a normal life. Couldn't be easier, right?

I found Donna, the heroine of ‘Bite Me’ to be very reminiscent of Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse. She works in a bar, doesn’t like the idea of being a ‘kept woman,’ and expresses her frustration at being repeatedly kidnapped and beaten up by rogue vampires. She differs in that she is a good deal more foul mouthed than Sookie especially when in the company of her four girlfriends, she’s better educated and after her initial surprise, doesn’t seem to have much trouble accepting the existence of vampires, wear wolves and other supernatural beings. Donna also capitulates to the vampire culture much more quickly and easily than Sookie. She is not, however, the kind of spunky, relatable “every woman” that made Sookie such an iconic character.

The bulk of the story is spent in setting up the characters and relationship of Donna and Connor, her vampire boyfriend and in setting the stage for the main conflict (vampire politics) that will be explored in subsequent novels in the series. Not much time is spent in world building which I found to be the greatest weakness of the story. The story is set in Dallas but not much is done to create the setting, mood or secondary characters that make for a rich reading experience. That is, in my opinion, one of the things Ms. Harris does so well.

Bottom line: this was light, quick reading that taps in to many of the typical vampire/human romance tropes. The flow is pretty good and the writing is fair. I didn’t find it objectionable but neither did I find it compelling.

Bite Me Bitten Book 1 edition by CC Wood Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

There are a group of friends. This just so happens to be Donna's book. I didn't like her as a main character at all. She was ditzy. And even when something was explained to her she would live in her head for days, while taking that information and twisting it up in her head. Until she was upset about things that were never going to happen. Throughout the book Donna remained blissfully unaware of her surroundings. Especially after an attack. There is stubborn and there is dumb. She fought Connor on everything just because. No real valid reasons. Her actions to me were immature. I enjoyed the secondary characters. Loved Connor and Finn. I won't be continuing the series because I'm afraid I will run into more female leads without any spunk and sass.
When Connor meets Donna she is working as a barmaid. Connor is a vampire and Donna is human. From the first encounter with Donna, he knows she is his other half. When he saves her from three attackers, she faints and Connor takes Donna to her apartment. Their relationship begins to grow even after Donna learns that Connor is a vampire. She doesn't tell her girlfriends (Ivie, Ricki, Kerry and Shannon) that she has a boyfriend, yet she doesn't want to be Connor's dirty little secret. Will Donna be able to escape when she is kidnapped by her old boss? Will Connor find her before something awful happens to her?

This novel was a good story but not the best. The characters are at most two dimensional. The plot was simple. The epilogue is a teaser for the next book. This novel contains adult language and explicit sex.
I enjoyed the book and do not regret downloading it but there were a few things that make this book a three star versus five star book.

The good
- Connor is pretty darn sexy
- The sex scenes are well done (see above)
- Overall the author's writing style is good

The not so great
- The romance between Donna and Conner goes from hot and fun to fairly mushy about 3/4 through the book. They go from having normal, and sometimes too snarky on Donna's part, conversations to over the top "I can't live without you" or "My world would end if anything ever happened to you" kind of dialogue.
- Donna can be a little TOO snarky. Most of the time, she is funny, but she was also pretty abrasive at times.
- Did not provide a clear picture on several "happenings" in the story, especially at the end. Not a lot of details, though there is a lot of action.

Again, I enjoyed it overall but I am going to read the next book to see if this is an author I will continue to follow. (as a reference, a few of my favorite authors are Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, & Shannon Mayer).
The book blurb says it all. A unique twist on the whole vampire genre, Bite Me is a quick, sexy, fun read with a wonderful mix of suspense, hilarious dialogue, erotic heat, and, of course, romance. Think True Blood vs. Sex in the City.

The heroine of this PNR, Donna Perry, is a smart, feisty, independent woman who's snarky humor had me laughing out loud throughout the entire story.

"I'm not exactly frightened of you, Conner. I just think maybe you have issues only a great deal of therapy and several types of antipsychotics can fix."

And Conner Savage (swoon) ... well, Conner is a beautiful, sexy, 340-year-old (give or take a year or two) Scottish vampire--an immortal Highlander, and, yes, at one point he dons a kilt. He's the perfect mix of sweet and dominant, and believes he has found his soul mate in Donna.

"You are more valuable to me than my own desires. If I have to keep you here against your will and watch you walk away when it's over, I will. Whatever it takes, Donna, I will do it. My heart belongs to you and anything that would harm you will harm me."

Other than a few typos along the way, my only complaint was that the ending was a tad rushed--thus the 4 stars. Nonetheless, a standalone with its own HEA, Bite Me was a very enjoyable read, and I have no doubt we'll hear more about Donna and Conner in the next book in the series, Once Bitten, Twice Shy.
